![]() Charlie Rose with George Shultz; Milton Friedman; Nicholas Hytner, Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour, Samuel Barnett & Dominic Cooper (November 17, 2006) Average Rating: 5.0 Total Reviews: 1 More Information Free to Choose This was a moving tribute to one of the major economists of the twentieth century, Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman. The show opens with Friedmans pupil and friend, former Secretary of State George Schultz speaking of Friedman as economist and teacher. The bulk of the segment is devoted to a rebroadcasting of an interview Charlie Rose did with Milton Friedman in Dec. 2005. This was a comprehensive and moving interview. When asked about his legacy Friedman speaks about the technical economic work he has done in monetary policy, in areas related to consumption. He says his hope is that these fifty years from now will still be considered contributions. As for his public work he speaks about one idea which he has given his life to promote , the idea of freedom. This idea has been central to his way of looking at life, his libertarian philosophy, his philosophy of reducing the part the government plays in peoples lives, and enabling individual choice and initiative to prevail. This was an especially moving show. |
