Worth the money

I received the lock promptly and put it to use right away. I have been very pleased with the added security that this locks provides both with its ability to withstand attacks and in it ability to simply intimidate a thief. It is ungodly heavy, but I can justify that considering my bike is worth it. Why by a 20 dollar cable to protect a $1300 bike?! Its in a investment that pays off every time you come back to find your bike still there waiting for you at the bike rack.

Very good except a few things

The chain is heavy, which is fine by me. That also means that it is strong and will probably deter all but the most determined criminal. The issues with this particular model is that the protective sleve will easily slide off of the chain if you arent careful. Also, there is not enough room in the links to put the lock through in any but the ones on the end, making it very difficult to wrap tightly around an object.

Other than those two issues, the thing is a beast.

Before I purchased this lock, I carefully read what other Amazon purchasers had to say and the common theme was "its heavy." Yes, it certainly is...Id say just under 15 pounds to be exact (including the actual lock and chain). BUT, if the durable manganese steel wasnt formed into six-sided hexagonal chain links, bike thieves would be stealing sweet rides all the time. Although this is the only lock I purchased, I am extremely confident that someone can not cut this lock and steal my bicycle, even on the streets of NYC. So, if you want to have a long-lasting relationship with your bicycle, youd better start working out those shoulder muscles because this lock is the best anti-theft device on the market...even if it is a pain to schlep around.

Excellent lock, this thing could stop a tank. It wouldve also been easily mountable due to the chain design. I had to return it though due to the weight. It weighs approximately 10 pounds and the extra weight wont work for long rides.

A very good chain

This is a very secure and sturdy chain and lock. I only wish it was a little lighter in weight.

Maybe a little overboard...but worth it

I bought this bike lock because it was the best lock on the market (according to reviews), and I figured I will very likely one day own a bike that would be worth stealing. My current bike is not THAT valuable, but I still dont want it stolen...However, now that I own the Fahgettaboudit, its almost too much...

Its definitely heavy. Wrapping it around my frame causes a noticeable weight increase, especially when leaning the bike and carrying it...plus, if I dont wrap it just right, the lock swings while Im riding, which has clipped my ankle once (not a very pleasant feeling). The chain will crush just about anything in a backpack, and putting it on the bottom will be annoying when it comes time to take it back out...though a compartmentalized backpack would fix that. Some users say they can fit it around their waste, but when I tried I couldnt keep it on with a winter coat on to boot.

Despite all this, I still highly recommend this lock. It doesnt even occur to me that someone will mess with my bike, no matter where I put it. If you own (or plan on owning) an expensive bike, theres no other way to go.

For those that are wondering if you should upgrade to the 5 chain, I lock my chain to a 4x4 post, and I dont have a problem with it. If you can position your back wheel by the object, 33" should be long enough. I cant imagine what another foot and a half would do to the weight...

Good Deal

This is an excellent product for people who have experienced the heartache of a stolen bike. This lock retails for $150 in NYC so its a huge steal online for half off. Its heavy and awkward but becomes easier to use over time. I sling it across my chest and it distributes the weight pretty easily.

ive been using the chain and the lock for about 2 months now, and theyre both great. heavy - yes, but hey, rather heavy than broken, right?
i like that i can wrap it around the waist when riding, so it doesnt dangle on the frame. plus, yet another reason to keep an eye on that waistline ;]
3 keys is definitely a great thing, and they have a nice exchange program (register your keys!).

i dont like their insurance policies - so much paperwork needs to be submitted within short timeframe, that i gave up and rely solely on the product and hope i wont have to deal with their ridiculous requirements to submit bill of purchase, pieces of broken chain/lock, etc, etc, etc.

other than paperwork - would strongly recommend both the chain and the lock.

The chain is heavy and you really need to be careful where you keep it when you are riding. i have had a bad spill due to the chain.i had it wrapped around the handlebars/forks and it slipped down in to the tire and stopped the bike and i in turn went over the handle bars. i feel very secure leaving my bike out with this lock.

Great Lock and Chain

This is a very heavy duty lock and chain. I dont worry about my bike being stolen with this lock and chain. It is very heavy but I found it is easy to carry in a rack mounted bag. The only problem that I see is that the cloth cover over the chain is too short. It is difficult to lock my bike (which is a U frame) with the chain without scratching the frame when pulling the chain through it. Also, with a U shaped frame (the U being down toward the ground), the 3 length I purchased has been a bit too short in some situations. Many of the bike racks around here need to be locked on to higher up so if you want to run the chain through the frame and the back wheel and to the rack, it can be too short, forcing me not to run the chain through the back wheel. Otherwise if you are looking for something that will intimidate people looking to steal your bike, this is great.
