Great Lock     On: 2009-10-12

Lock is very easy to use and very light. The clamp works great to carry it around.
The lock is fine but the frame mount     On: 2009-10-11

is RETARDED. There are too may things wrong with it to list. Dont buy this lock if you plan to mount it to your frame.
not the best lock out there     On: 2009-09-16

Had my bike stolen in the first week of owning it while using this lock. i give it i a three star because my bike was locked overnight (although it was in a courtyard area that i didnt think people would be prying into), and that made my bike an easier target.

if you want to be able to lock your bike up and not really have to worry about where or when you are locking it, this isnt the lock for you. if you just want to lock your bike out in the daylight in areas with lots of people around, thisll probably do the job for you.
Pretty Durable     On: 2009-08-29

I have been using this particular U-Lock for about a month+ now. I would ride my bike down to my gym and lock it outside; nothing has ever happen to my bike. Im happy so far, the key mechanism is also very easy. Just as long as you dont use force on the on key, it should last a long time. Its not as heavy like some other u-locks out there, but its just as durable.

It also comes with a lock attacher which is quite handy, you can attach your lock to your bike in other words :)
Lock is good, too bad there is no way to mount it.     On: 2009-07-30

The lock seems ok. Havent had a chance to use it yet because Ive spend the last hour trying to figure out how to mount it to my bike. The new bracket mechanism makes the lock stick out an extra inch or two more than my previous Kryptonite lock did. Its pretty much impossible to fit the lock mount inside of your frame if you also have a water bottle holder.

I ended up using the bracket that came with my old bike lock to hold the kryptolok series 2. The new bracket design is ridiculous. Kryptonite obviously didnt do any product testing.

There are no pictures on Kryptonites website of this locked mounted on a bike and now I know why.

I would highly recommend you not purchase this lock if you plan on using the bracket.
Lock Picked, Bike Stolen     On: 2009-07-20

Dont buy this lock if you live in or ride to high risk areas. My lock was picked overnight. I attached my frame and wheel to a solid street pole and my Trek bike was gone the next day.
Overrated     On: 2009-05-12

The lock is fine, though I dont like how the plastic sleeve around the keyhole moves so you have to make sure the hole aligns with the keyhole. What really frustrated me is the bracket. What in the world were they thinking was going through my mind as I was playing with it. Just try to remove the bracket by placing a screwdriver into the slot and lifting up per the instruction manual. Atrocious design on the bracket. Luckily, most of the time I ride with a backpack which is where this will go instead.
Much better than the OnGuard Bulldog Lock     On: 2009-04-14

I have owned both an OnGuard bulldog u-lock and a this Kryptolock 2. I prefer this one because it is easier to secure to the bike (the OnGuard only accommodates a narrow range of frame-widths) and because of the rubber pads, which prevent it from rattling while riding. With the OnGuard lock, this proved a major annoyance.
fine lock, make sure you measure your bike     On: 2009-01-07

The lock is fine. It seems well made, and unlike the last lock I purchased, the key mechanism works well, although I was disappointed to see that the key is very lightweight (aluminum probably) and will eventually bend. Before you order, make sure you measure your bike. The 9" loop barely fits between my wheel and the frame.
it's not bad for medium to low bike crime areas     On: 2008-02-29

Kryptonite STD U Lock seems to be a decent lock but it still can be "infiltrated" by a knowledgeable master thief/master lock picker in probably under 1 hour time. Im not too worried since it is sizable, hefty looking and very heavy (2 lbs), so it looks bigger than what I saw on other bikes in the bike rack and my bike is only valued at $285.

The keys are very flimsy and forged with cheap metal so I wont be surprised in 2 months that they snap or are damaged. The Lock holder (cheap plastic) didnt work on my bike as the Lock is too big to fit anywhere so I just snug it into my rear rack. Comes with a cable (be warned, it can be cut quite easily so dont use it as a "main attachment" to a pole, bike rack, etc, just use it to secure your rear or front tires with the U Lock attached to a pole, bike rack.).

In all, its not bad for medium to low bike crime areas but dont use it for expensive bikes, big cities, dangerous zones or in dark desolate areas where a thief can use high powered tools or torches.
Seems good     On: 2007-10-25

Hard to tell how a lock will hold up to the bike thiefs, but it seems to be a pretty good lock. I have to say my new bike will not get stolen as easily as my old one. I was skeptical about buying this because of the review stating that the barrel is hollow, but now that I have it I can tell you that the barrel is not very vulnerable. I do not really like the bike mount, but I am not familiar with them so I cant say there is anything better out there. I also have to say that I wouldnt buy this lock for the "insurance" unless you have a lot better bike than I do.

Provides only very basic protection

I bought this for my friend, and on the surface, it looks like a fine lock. Unfortunately, its beauty is only skin deep and my disappointments started after I opened the box. Kryptonite only gives you 2 keys, which is really quite stingy, especially if youre prone to misplacing keys. (Planet Bike gives you 3 and Onguard gives you 5) Next, the locking mechanism only engages the U bar on one side - the other side is curved so it hooks inside the crossbar. This method might have worked well, however, since the crossbar is mostly hollow, the hooking region inside the crossbar is particularly very vulnerable since its no more than 2mm thick. As a matter of fact, the crossbar is almost entirely hollow - if you see in the picture, the area underneath the gray vinyl is hollow.

Kryptonite color-codes their locks (a very bad idea since it tells would-be thieves what youre got from a distance), with the best ones in yellow and middle range in orange. This gray lock just screams cheap.

I wouldnt protect an expensive bike with this lock, but it does come with up to $1251 in protection in case somebody does steal your bike. This lock has some good features like rubber washers at the base of the U to prevent rattle and the entire surface is coated in thick vinyl to protect your bikes finish, but when it comes to security, you can definitely do better.

For the same money, I think the Onguard Bulldog is a better buy. OnGuard Bulldog STD Lock
Great Lock     On: 2007-08-04

This lock is easy to use and locks nicely. The key and cylinder function great; its easy to lock and unlock with smooth operation. My only gripe is that I would like the U-shape to be a little wider to make it easier to lock the front rim to the back rim and frame. It takes some fiddling with my road bike to get things to line up correctly. If you have a mountain or hybrid bike, it will be even harder, as my road bike tires are narrow (23-mm)and the rims are small.
