I love them     On: 2008-05-21

Please read this review, especially if you are concerned about the arms breaking as noted in previous reviews.

Pros: Very lightweight - great tint increases contrast and makes everything look pretty - polarization cuts glare - looks good - great customer service - medium tint makes it perfect for everyday use

Cons: Arms snap if you have an early batch model (see below) - expensive - cant fold up when not being used - medium tint is not the best for extremely bright environments

My girlfriend got a pair of Moku (HCL Bronze tint, gold/orange arms) in November 2007 from Sunglass Hut. They worked great until one of the arms snapped in April 2008 when I was putting them on carefully as I always do. I had actually noticed what looked like stress marks on the arm by the joint section, but I didnt think much of it. I called SGH and told them about my problem, and they informed me that Maui Jim had actually had some problems with the arms snapping for the hingeless models, and to call them to have it repaired. I called Maui Jim and talked to one of their customer service reps, and was told to look at the patent/model numbers on the arms. If there was a dot after the numbers, then the pair was part of the new batch and if there were no dots then it was part of the old batch. The old batch apparently had some errors in the formulation for the arms polymer which caused stress fractures. I sent my pair in and they put the new arms on for free, I didnt even have to pay for shipping. The new arms (w/dots after the model number) feel much more "springy" and I dont see any stress marks on them. The bottom line on the arm snapping issue: If you have a new batch set, you shouldnt have any problems. If you have an old batch set, MJ will swap out the arms for free.

I love these sunglasses and I would recommend them very much. The HCL Bronze tint is more of a medium tint that is suitable for casual wear outdoors and such, but is not as dark as some other tints. Therefore, you may want to get the gray tint option if you want to use these in very bright light. However, the HCL Bronze offers the best balance of light reduction and contrast enhancement. The brown lenses really boost the colors and make everything (especially outdoor scenes) much prettier looking. I wear these every day whether its walking around outdoors, playing catch in the bright sun, going to baseball games, driving, etc.
Very fragile     On: 2007-09-22

These glass are comfortable and lightweight, but the arms are very fragile. While putting them on one day one arm snapped off and I sent them in for repair. Maui Jim sent a new pair and a letter chastising me for not putting them on properly. Go figure.
Design flaw     On: 2007-08-29

Great MJ Lenses. Unfortunately, arm broke off after a month of _very_ gentle use. Got them replaced and the second pair did the same thing.
Innovative Design w/ a unforeseen defect     On: 2007-07-09

Very innovative! However, these glasses require you have a slim shaped head like a Slim Jim. I have an oval head and my pair started to get hairline cracks after a month of wear. The later snapped at the arm, I got them repaired np. After 2 months the cracks returned and they snapped again. I am trying to get the replaced w/ a different model and break this vicious cycle.
