Tremendous for cool & wet to mid-cold     On: 2007-12-30

These are very solidly built, high quality materials, etc. -- all one expects from Sidi, and from a shoe at this price point.

You should probably buy these true to size. They are sized a bit large to accommodate a thick sock. Unless youre planning to wear 3 pairs, go with your summer shoe size.

I was unimpressed with the earlier Sidi Storm model. These feel a good bit warmer. And with two soggy days under my belt, the Gore-Tex liner is a good thing. As warm as these are, they are still not Sorel winter boots. If youre planning to wear these in Minnesota for a -10deg commute, Id think twice and would probably go to a cage pedal and a proper winter boot (not bike shoe). But for anything but the extremes, theyve got me convinced.

I am warmer with these shoes and a regular sock than I was with my Sidi Dominators, a heavy sock, and a neoprene bootie. With thicker socks and the bootie on top of these for the coldest of days in my area (maybe low teens), I am now utterly spoiled.

In short -- youre not going to do any better in a proper bike shoe with a cleat.
Some good shoes     On: 2007-11-11

I am a bicycle commuter. After going a year riding in cold, wet weather with some regular mountain bike shoes I earnestly searched for something to keep my feet warm. I tried shoe covers, extra socks, and even freezer bags on the inside of my shoes. All of them proved to be partially sufficient, but full of hassle, adding an extra step to just hopping on my bike and taking off down the road.

Then I got these things. While these Sidi shoes are not cheap, they are well made. Exceedingly light, yet very hard with the feeling of hard soled work boots. I worried about an awkward feeling and not being able to click in to my pedals, but they feel the same as a regular mountain bike shoe, but just a little harder. There is a little more room in the toe area than a tight fitting bike shoe, and this little space helps the shoe to accommodate thicker socks and space to let the feet breathe. With a good pair of wool socks these shoes make riding in the cold much more comfortable.

As an added bonus, the interior of the shoe is lined with a goretex fabric that keeps the feet dry in wet weather. While I wouldnt wear them in a flood, on a rainy day they keep my feet drier than an ordinary pair of shoes.

All in all, these are a good way to keep the feet warm while biking. The price is not cheap, but the added convenience of two forms of protection from the elements at once make the Sidi Diablo GTX a good investment if you plan to do a lot of riding in the cold months. Price is the only set back I can think of for these shoes!
