great space saver     On: 2010-03-12

purchased this for half the price of the exact same hoist I bought at sports chalet! I raised our 2 beach cruiser bikes up to the ceiling and you hardly know they are there.
Good product, good price, is exactly what I needed     On: 2010-03-04

The product was exactly what I needed. Purchased three of the same to lift bikes out of the way. Better price then local stores. I have 12 ceilings in my garage and so these get the bikes completely out of the way. After measuring and finding studs, I determined the best mounting would be to put a 1 x 4 against the ceiling sheet rock. This made it very easy to measure and attach the lift system to the board on the ground first, then I mounted the board the the ceiling. Im guessing it took me about 30 minutes to do the first one and then about 15 minutes each for the others. The long cord worked out great for me, I didnt need to trim anything.

The pulley system isnt a fast lifting system. I take my time lifting it up and down but it requires little effort. Its clean, easy to use and the right price. Well worth it.
What's Not To Like!     On: 2010-03-01

Product is just as described. Works great. Great price too. Whats not to like. Pretty simple, actually. Pulleys, hooks and rope. Not much can go wrong.
Poor Execution     On: 2010-02-20

Beware, the RAD and Racor bike ceiling mounts have minor important differences. Previously I had purchased a Racor, and I thought I was buying the same bike mount when I bought the RAD. The main important difference is the hooks. The RADs hooks are "L" shaped; theyre not "J" shaped like those in the illustration advertising the product. The RADs hooks are also rivited onto the pully assemble and the tension cannot be adjusted. The rubber coating on the RADs hooks is also short; it only comes up about 1/2" after the turn.

If youre looking for a bike mount, the Racor is also cheaply made, but its certainly better than the RAD for only a couple of dollars more.
Rad Bike Hoist     On: 2010-02-17

This product was easy to install. I had it installed in about 15 minutes. Its easy to use. My eight year old raises and lowers his bike with ease. As fas as looks, its great because we dont even hardly notice it up at the ceiling.
Works as advertised     On: 2009-12-29

While the quality of the rope could be better, they give you plenty of it and the instructions were easy to follow and hang. Although if you want to mount the bikes so they run opposite of your ceiling joists you need to add a 2x4 across them to mount the brackets. It also helps to secure the bracket to the 2x4 before you hang it.
Wish I had more bikes     On: 2009-12-23

Liked it a lot - bought three. Easy to install -considering its on the ceiling. Hoists and lowers bikes just like I needed. Created a lot of extra space.
Great product overall, but may need new rope     On: 2009-12-10

I researched a number of hoist systems and overall have been very pleased with this one. It is very solid construction and very easy to mount. The only complaint I have is that the rope has started to fray a bit, as suggested in other reviews, but would be easy and cheap to replace at the point that I need to.

I have two systems mounted to the ceiling that is about 14 high, and the included ropes are just long enough.
Working exactly as needed     On: 2009-12-07

Purchased two of these mounts to help clear out space in the garage. We have 10 ceilings in the garage, and needed something that would both provide the lift, and have enough rope to make it the extra few feet.

The product was easy to install, worked flawlessly, and provided exactly the function we were looking to get.
Great bike hangers with ease of use...     On: 2009-11-24

It took me about 3 hours to nail down these to pieces of wood, and then install them. I did not nail them to the roof, instead just placed the wood pieces containing these bike hoists on the exposed wood rails in the garage. I have un-finished ceiling in the garage. I have hung up two bikes using two of these bike hoists. Hope they hold well.
You get what you pay for     On: 2009-11-11

The bike goes up and down so shaky and uneven that it takes two people to take the bike up or down. When you pull on the cord, one part of the bike goes up first and the hooks are flat - so they can come out of their place if someone doesnt hold them. It is very difficult to get the cleat on the top to allow me to lower the bike as well. I wish I would have spent more and got a better built unit.
Bike Hoist     On: 2009-11-05

Compact and fits in just the right space. Quick payment = Quick delivery. Impressed with how easy it was to set up as well.
Quick & easy     On: 2009-11-04

Gear was great - went up quick and the bikes havent fallen down yet, so Id say were in business!
Great!     On: 2009-11-04

I have two Recumbent bikes that I wanted to suspend in my garage, for more floor space.
These babys did the trick. I had to mount them directly to the rafters, there is no sheetrock and had to mount them on each side of the cieling pitch. No problems at all!
Works Great!     On: 2009-11-02

Bought two sets of these to hang bikes in garage to reclaim some space. Easy to install and easy to work!
Easy enough for my 6 year old to use!     On: 2009-10-22

I am impressed by the cost, quality and convenience of this pulley system. It took about 3 hours to install four in our garage, including a trip to Lowes for four 1x6 boards and some anchoring screws to ensure a secure fit. The directions were pretty good, my only recommendation is to have someone assisting with the installation to help with dropped screws, etc. I could not be happier with how easy it is to raise and lower the bikes, so easy that even my 6 year old daughter is able to raise and lower her bike on her own.
Good item to have but hard to install     On: 2009-10-11

The item comes with small screws only, it doesnt even come with lag screws it recommended to install with. In order to securely mounted on the garage ceiling, you have to use lag screws. The center holes where the lag screw goes in are too small, I had to use my drill to make them bigger. The unit shapes like a U, where the lag screw goes in the middle hole. So when you tighten the it, the unit bend easily. The unit is too wide to mount directly into studs, so u must mount it on a block of 2x4 before you use very long lag screw to mount to ceiling. Since you have to go through the unit, 1 thick, the 2x4 and leave enough length to go into stud, I had to used 7/16 x 4 lag screws. To install, you have to drill holes on the block of 2x4 first, screws the unit in. Then you have to line up the lag screws and drill holes to the ceiling. Using a ratchet, ratchet the unit up slowly and painfully. You have to find a good place to drill to the ceiling studs or otherwise you might get stuck. I broked couple lag screws that way. I must tell you, it aint fun working with my arms raised up, make you tired quickly.

After all day of work, I finally got them working. Hoisted my 2 bikes (I bought 2 units) up, not too difficult at all. And the internal locking mechanism really works, it locks the bike in place even in mid air. I have my bikes hosted to the ceiling for a week now, they aint going nowhere. I must say I am impressed by the locking mechanism but not very impressed by how difficult to install the unit.

As advertized     On: 2009-10-09

Hardware is good and solid and looks like it will last. Installation was straight forward and product worked as expected. Rope provided is substandard though and depending upon frequency of use I dont expect it to last.
Excellent functionality for the price     On: 2009-09-25

This installed quickly and easily. It works great for my kids bike. I used different wood for attaching hoist to ceiling. Id definitely buy another one of these if I needed one.
rad bike mount hoist     On: 2009-09-24

This is a good idea for getting the bikes out of your way in the garage, works great with a few modification, better hoist mounting screws for garage cellings that doesnt have studs to attach the two brackets to, and about a hour of your time to install it using a small latter, drill pencil and screw driver is about all you will need.
Perfect Solution     On: 2009-09-18

We bought two of these for our bikes at the beach. We have very limited storage, but the ceiling is very high under the house. I am 68" tall, and I can walk under the bikes with plenty of room to spare...plus my 52" 100 pound wife can raise and lower the bikes easily. Ingenious in their simplicity, it was a breeze to install on the exposed joists with the help of my son. I would recommend.
Works as intended, but...     On: 2009-09-14

The product works well and lifts your bikes up as intended, but I have some advice to potential buyers:

1) The hooks that lift the bike seat dont securely attach to the seat. If you walk under the bikes, make sure you dont bang or rock it, because it may fall off the hooks. Theyre more like 90-degree brackets than hooks. Anyway, the directions are clear about not standing/walking under the bikes while hoisted, but these things happen from time-to-time. Especially in places like sheds/garages where things are stored beneath.
2) The included screws are junk and they strip easily. Do yourself a favor and use proper 2" wood screws. Consider pre-drilling pilot holes and use washers as well.
3) The directions are a tad lacking, and the pictures arent the greatest either.
Great product     On: 2009-09-10

This is a great product. It does all it is supposed to do at a very reasonable price. Bikes are easily raised and lowered; I highly recommend this hoist system.
Rope better than I was expecting     On: 2009-08-31

After reading reviews here, I was worried about the rope that comes with the kit. I didnt need to worry, it is much better than I was expecting. I just installed the lift this weekend and even my wife loves using it - she only complained about the bike not lifting evenly and that was easily overcome. No more of the cheap hooks that you have to lift the bike upside down to use - she was never able to do that and her bike was always in the middle of the garage because of it. Easy to install (without using a 2x4 like mentioned). More than worth the $ and we will probably buy 2 more for the kids bikes.
Does it's job     On: 2009-08-21

Works just as advertised. Gets the bikes up out of the way for the most part. If my ceiling in the garage was about a foot taller that would be ideal but still not much ducking is needed to get under the bikes. One thing I foresee changing in the future is the rope. The nylon rope supplied frays and snags on things really easily and Ill probably end up swapping it out for a tougher climbing cord style rope later. Otherwise a good product.
bike lift     On: 2009-08-17

Easy to assemble, read instructions,I used board and kit has abundance of rope. RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist - Bicycle Hoists
Simple and Good     On: 2009-08-11

Does exactly what I wanted it to do. Nothing fancy but sturdy and easy to install. I have never had a more expensive version but I couldnt imagine anything more that is needed.
Installation and Safety Tips     On: 2009-07-23

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.
Get some chain with a quick release connection so you can create a safety cable. The way the hooks attach to the bike, its too easy for it to slip off. The bikes have already slipped off and were saved by the safety cables I had. I happened to have a safety cable lying around and I wouldnt have it any other way. The hooks that come with the system already have the holes to attach the cable to.

INSTALLATION TIP.
Whether you are setting up the system parallel or perpendicular to the studs, first "build" the system using a 2x4 as suggested with the perpendicular stud drawling (Drawling 3). Then lag the entire unit as one into the ceiling. Its much easier.

Other than that, I like the system very much. It works great.
L.O.V.E. I.T.     On: 2009-07-12

I love it. It works great. Very easy to install. If you live in a crappy NYC apartment like I do with crappy ceilings, make sure you get heavy duty metal butterfly anchors. The only complaint I have is that the hooks should be a little heavier so that they come down evenly. But, hey, for $15 who cares! Its great.
Bike Hoist     On: 2009-07-06

The bike hoist does everything it is designed to do. It has created the floor space I was looking for. The only drawback is that the ropes fray very easily. Im sure I will have to replace them very soon.
Bike Hoist work as designed.     On: 2009-06-26

I bought 3 of these to qualify for the free shipping. I have installed one. I Mounted it to a 2X6 and hung it from the rafters of my shop. I use it to hoist my pontoon boat which weighs about 50lb. It easily hoists the boat. I would say it works as described and is a great buy at $10+ each. The screws are junk metal the phillyps head stripping out easly. To use the screws pre drill holes with 1/8" bit to ease entry, but if you think you may want to get them back out someday use better screws! The rope is adiquate for the job. Instructions say it will lift 100lb. I am happy with the product and am sure I will find use for the other two I now have.
ceiling Mount Bike Racks     On: 2009-06-17

These racks were great. Easy to put up, work great. I was having problems with space in my pole barn due to bicycles setting around. I have a Mountain bike and a Road bike. My wife has a bike and we have two bikes for the Grandkids. I was constantly having to move bikes around to get at different items on my work bench. Now I have the bikes suspended from the ceiling and have all the room I need to move around. When I am ready to ride it is simple to lower a bike down and use it, then return it to its place on the ceiling when I am finished. It is also easy to work on the bikes by lowering them to where I want them and working on them at eye level without having to worry about them falling over.
Perfect for my two bikes     On: 2009-06-14

I bought two and very please with the product. They were straight forward to install and use. Make sure you measure carefully between your seat and handle bars. You want the bracket spacing such that they are directly above the handle bars and seat.

Dont cut the rope too short (like I did). Its length needs to be 5 times the height of the pulley to the ceiling when at the lowest point plus the distance between the brackets. For me, that is almost 50 feet of rope.

I bought a replacement rope at Home Depot.

Great gadget     On: 2009-06-14

This was a bit tricky to install, but once we got started, it was fairly easy. One note: do not try to adjust the bike while it is suspended! My boyfriend did, and it slipped off the holder and he caught it before it landed on us. Other than that, I love the product. Its easy to use, and I like that my bike is out of the way.
Unbelievably cheap price - quality is not sacrificed     On: 2009-06-10

You will pay 3-4 times as much for a similar rack from The Container Store or $5-10 more at [...]

The rack actually will hold 100lbs (per the statement on the box) and I use it to hoist up my heavy hybrid with child carrier attached.
Exactly what I was looking for!     On: 2009-05-21

Easy installation. I used different screws like others have mentioned, but thats not because the other screws werent sufficient. I just dont particularly like the panhead screws. I threw in some 3" coarse drywall screws. I also mounted it on a 2x4 first, then screwed the board into a joist. That made it easier to size it up to the bike first. That string is like the length of a football field, so yeah, it might need to be trimmed. But that doesnt take anything away. I got 4 of em and I love em.
Up, up and away!     On: 2009-05-16

Old technology, new idea! Its a great way to hoist your bikes up and out of the way for more garage storage space. Anyone with some do-it-yourself skills can have it installed in about a half hour. Pulleys make it easy for even a small person to hoist a heavy (or light) bike all the way up to the ceiling in seconds. Great product!
IT'S A PRACTICAL BIKE STORAGE     On: 2009-05-07

AS SOON AS I MOUNT THIS PRODUCT , I FIND A SPECIAL PLACE TO MY BIKE, MAYBE THE CORD COULD BE MORE SOFT, BUT IN GENERAL ITS A GREAT PRODUCT.
Don't let the cheap price scare you away!!     On: 2009-05-04

We were a bit nervous with these bike hoists for the garage because they were so inexpensive. We decided to give them a try and wow, they work like a charm. No more back breaking work hauling them onto hooks or racks, you clip a hook by the handlebars and one behind the seat and start pulling the rope. Easy as can be. Use your effort in biking, not storing the bike. We highly recommend them.
works as advertised. hooks and screws not good.     On: 2009-05-02

One reviewer commented on the quality and size of the screws included, and they were correct: much too large, and too easy to strip. I used my own screws instead.

Another reviewer commented that the hooks used to hold up the bikes were also not bent correctly (too flat, not enough curve) and I totally agree. In fact, because the front and back pulleys move up at different rates (depending on the weight balance of the bike front-to-back), the tilt angle of the bike caused it to slip off the too-flat hooks. This was terrible! My solution was to purchase 2 steel spring cargo clips for an additional $4 at home depot. I unscrewed the hooks from the bottom of the pulley and threaded in a short length (2) of rope I cut off. This makes a perfect loop for the spring clip and lets me actually clip the pulleys to the seat and handlebars. Much more secure.

I still give this product 4 stars because it was so inexpensive and I knew what I was getting myself into based on the useful comments from other reviewers.
Works good     On: 2009-04-30

Ive mounted 4 Bike Hoist units next to each other with 16 inch spacing (standard stud seperation). As mention by other people, on some bikes one has to adjust (bend) hooks so it fits properly under the seat to prevent accidental slip. One bike for safety reasons I attached hooks to the frame below the seat by twisting hook asembly quarter of the turn.
Product saved me garage floor space equal to four bikes.
Great bike hoist!     On: 2009-04-24

This bike hoist system works great! I bought two to hang two bikes right next to each other and they fit very nicely. The installation was very easy, I installed it directly into ceiling studs. It took about a 1/2 hour to install and secure everything. No need to buy the kits that cost 3 or 4 times as much.
Great product, great price     On: 2009-04-13

This is an excellent ceiling mount bike pulley system. The quality of the items if very good. Unlike others, I had no issue with the quality of the rope provided with the kit. The only questionable part of the kit is the wood screws provided by the manufacturer, which are of poor quality. Since I keep lots of screws on hand in my shop, this was not an issue for me, as I simply used by own wood screws. I would definitely recommend this product. You simply cant this great quality at this price elsewhere.
bike hoist     On: 2009-04-09

If my bike were a a conventional mountain or road bike, this hoist would probably work perfectly, however I have a tandem recumbent that is 10 feet long. When hoisting, the front end rises rapidly and the rear stays put. I must hold down the front for the back to catch up, a real PITA.
ceiling mounted bike rack     On: 2009-04-08

I actually bought a total of 11 bike racks for my Son. 9 for his garage and 2 for silent action for the Police Unity Tour. All arrive on time and in perfect condition. I let him climb the ladder to hand the racks in the garage which gave them much more room. Maybe some day a car will fit in the garage.
Works as claimed.     On: 2009-04-02

Very simple to install and operate. Worth every penny. Works even better when hooked directly to the bike frame.
saves space but has issues     On: 2009-03-27

I ordered four of these to hang not only bikes but a couple of ladders.

Installation was not to tough, two screws into each bracket and you are set. As others have stated use your own screws or predrill. I happen to have 3" deck screws onhand and they worked much better as they were easier to drive and were much longer than the ones provided.

I personally found this product to be somewhat unsafe the hooks that hold onto the handlebars and seat are not U shaped but merely slightly bent, Twice Ive had a bike fall while lifting. This happens because the bike does not raise evenly so when the seat end went up higher than the front the angle was enough to allow the hook to slip off causing the bike to fall.

This can be remedied by either bending the hook into more of a U shape or by attaching a safety strap to catch should the hook slip. I took a couple of Carabiners ($2 at Walmart) with a small piece of rope I secure one to the hole in the hook assembly and the other I just clip to the bike, it takes an extra second or two but I know that a bike isnt going to fall on one of the kids should they bump into it.

For those of you hoping to hang other items its possible BUT problematic I was hoping to hang a power wheels but ran into issues with it being unstable due the width creating center of gravity problems (the hooks only spread a few inches apart) This isnt an issue with a bike because all its weight is in the middle. I do use two of these to hang ladders and it works well especially since they dont get used that often but once again a safety strap is key.

Hope this helps as a whole its a good investment just take a few extra seconds to bend the hooks a bit (do before you hang everything up) and whatever you do DONT cut the rope until you lower the bike.

Saves a lot of space in my studio apartment     On: 2009-03-26

Great product. I will put this up first-thing the next time I move, it saves a ton of space in my little studio. Had to use a hammer drill because my apartment ceiling is made out of cement. Well worth the extra effort to put it up.
Great product, great price     On: 2009-03-18

This is a great way to store a bike. The hardware is good quality, its the best bang for your buck in my opinion. It works as it is pictured on this listing, no surprises and easy to use.

RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist - Bicycle Hoists     On: 2009-03-11

Good looking product. I havent installed it because my garage is actually too short for it. Make sure you have a tall garage if youre going to buy this product. Everything appears to be easy to install and very basic operation to make it easy for anyone.
Works well. Installs poorly.     On: 2009-02-27

If you can get past the installation process, this bike hoist works well. The components are strong enough for the job. Only the screws are substandard and get stripped easily. Since they are dry wall screws and you really want to fix the hoist to a wood beam to support the weight of the bike, you will do much better with your own wood screws anyway.

Here is a list of tools and material that I recommend for the installation:

1. One fully charged drill/screw-driver with appropriate drill bits and screw heads.
2. One piece of 3/4"x3 1/2" lumber for extra support. It also gives you some flexibility if the ceiling beam does not run through the exact location of your choosing.
3. One electric saw for trimming the lumber to the right length.
4. #8x2" and #8x3" wood screws.
5. One pencil.
6. One tape measure.
7. One stud finder.
8. One ladder.
9. One set of stuck screw extractors, if you insist on using the default screws.

By the way, the Racor PBH-1R Ceiling-Mounted Bike Lift is exactly the same as this product except for a coat of less shiny paint. There is absolutely no reason to pay extra for Racor, particularly since the screws are equally worthless.

Decent at best     On: 2009-02-22

This bicycle mount is decent at best. It mounts well into the ceiling, u must attach to a crossbeam though, sheetrock will not hold the weight of a bike.

The cord will come of the pulleys pretty easily which means u have to climb up a ladder to put them back on track every time, real beatdown. the hooks that u put under the seat & handlebars are not hooked enough & super hard to bend.

Not a great product but works decent at best if you have to get your bike off the ground in the garage.
Thumbs up     On: 2009-02-16

I purchased two of these hoists and am quite happy with them. My wife and 9 year old both use these for their bicycles without any difficulty. As others have mentioned, the mounting screws included in the kit are not very high quality. Drill pilot holes when installing these or purchase better quality screws seperately. All things considered, these hoists are quite a good bargain at under $15.
Not Bad for the Money     On: 2009-02-07

I am actually using the product to hoist something other (much heavier) than a bicycle but I think my comments might still be of interest to others. I found the product to be reasonably well made. The rope, as noted by others, is inexpensive but suitable for its purpose. If you dont like it, you can certainly afford to replace it based on the products low price. The only complaint I have is that the two pulleys dont rise at the same rate; the pulley carrying the least amount of weight will rise first and once at its maximum height, will then allow the pulley with the heavier load to rise. This probably isnt an issue for hoisting a bike but in my application, I need both pulleys to rise equally at the same time. Its an easy problem to work around but the product would be perfect without it. To be honest, Im not sure what could be done about this as I think its just the physics of its two-pulley design. For $12.00 each and free shipping though, Im more than satisfied (and I purchased 4). For those hoisting bikes, it certainly beats lifting your bike in the air to hang it on a hook and, by storing the bike horizontally, you have more space underneath it than if you had to hang the bike vertically from a single hook. As for mounting, as others have suggested, I would recommend first mounting the entire hoist on a 5 or 6 foot long 1x4 and then mounting the 1x4 to your ceiling. Without the 1x4, trying to align the hoists mounting holes with your ceiling joists is all but impossible if youre mounting the device parallel to your joists. Even when mounting the hoist perpendicular to your joists, the hoists mounting points need to be as vertical to the bikes attachment points as possible to ensure maximum security when lifting the bike; something your joist spacing may not allow. Pre-mounting the hoist to the 1x4 eliminates nearly all of these concerns. Other than that, I highly recommend the product; it certainly beats paying $60.00 for the glorified hook of a competing product.
excellent quality     On: 2009-02-02

this is a vey useful item, arrived as described. it is of excellent construction and quality, and a great value at the price I paid.
Does the job Well     On: 2009-01-26

I think the construction on this thing is fine and certainly worth the price compared to others. It operates smoothly if you assemble it properly and use the measurements they provide. I was overly cautious when installing it so I deviated a little from their directions which meant I had to make a trip to the hardware store. Once I had everything though it went together and up pretty easy. Im getting another one for another bike and will probably end up owning a couple more as my kids get older and their bikes also need to be stored. Cant imagine how you could be disappointed with this thing. If you are thinking about trying it before buying multiples dont bother. I did that so now Im going to have to get all my stuff out all over again, it would have been easier to mount them at the same time. For best results I suggest mounting to a flat 2x4 first, it might not look as pretty but its not going anywhere.
Cieling mounted rack     On: 2008-12-22

Very quick and easy to install. Have four of these in the garage side by side. Finally found the easiest way for my wife to deal with getting the bike out of the way and almost effortlessly. A little tricky getting both hooks and pulling a rope but as long as you have teeth you can master this in seconds.
RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist - Bicycle Hoists     On: 2008-12-12

The price was right and it mounted easily except for changing the length of the screws used into the ceiling. But I can see how if your seat and handle bars are of different style then mine the hooks mightnt not hold on!
Great Deal     On: 2008-12-10

The product worked as advertised. You may connect it in parallel directly to the joist, but will need a 2x4 piece of wood if you desire to connect it perpendicular to the beams. The brake works very well - if you suddenly let go of the rope, it immediately stops. I recommend threading the rope through each stage (there are 4 sections) before mounting to the ceiling.

One thing that you should know is that it is not really possible to get your bike all the way to the ceiling. I tried placing the clips in different places (i.e. wheels, bar, etc.), but then the balance of the system was lost and it became difficult to raise uniformly. So, be aware if your overhead is tight. You should add about 6-10 inches onto the height of your bike to determine how low it will hang.

There were a lot of higher priced alternatives, but this one worked fine. I started with 2, but will be purchasing more in the future. I highly recommend this product.
works ok, inexpensive     On: 2008-12-02

decent value for the money. mine wouldnt balance the load very well. It would lift the front very far before balancing the rear. This is probably due to cheap pulleys. I cant dog it too much, it is very inexpensive.
Some problems     On: 2008-12-01

Maybe two-and-a-half stars? The rope supplied was flimsy, frays easily, and will need to be replaced soon. The two "hooks" were actually L-shaped, would not reliably hold my bike seat and handlebars, and had to be reshaped on a vise. Installation was difficult, requiring mounting the unit on a 2x4, climbing a ladder with it, holding the unit in place with one hand, and starting the screws with the other hand. Two persons and two ladders would be really nice (and much safer).

But, the price was good. And (if you have a 12-foot ceiling in your garage), it is nice having the bikes completely out of the way, with foot traffic underneath.
Item as described! Works great.     On: 2008-11-25

This bike pulley system is great. I now have four of them and I have two bikes and two kayaks off the ground and out of the way.

Great Item.
Want to gets your bikes off your garage floor. Now there's no excuse!     On: 2008-11-24

Easy to install and nows theres no excuse not to unless you dont have a garage! Well worth the money. Now the only thing I am not sure of is getting the bike down but I will deal with this in the spring.
Does the job as intended     On: 2008-11-23

With some careful measuring and planning, installation was a success. My bike is stored up, out of the way.

These work great highly recommend these bike hoist.
Please take your time putting them up correctly,
as these can be hazardous if not installed right.
RAD Cycle hoist     On: 2008-10-30

The RAD Cycle Hoist is a decent product for a great price. Quality of construction is average, but for my use it is adequate. The RAD Cycle hoist allowed me to gain valuable garage space. Compared to my old wall mount bicycle storage hooks, the RAD Cycle Hoist is much easier to use. No more back-breaking lifting my bicycles over my head while I try to hook a tire. I would definitely recommend the RAD Cycle Hoist.
Very useful     On: 2008-10-24

We bought 4 bike hoists and they were easy to install and work exactly as youd expect. The bikes are way up in the rafters of our storage shed and leave plenty of walking room underneath. Highly recommended - as long as you have fairly high ceilings to accommodate them.
Good for the price     On: 2008-10-21

Pros: save the space from garage.
Cons: It took time to install, Thread is not good.
Good product     On: 2008-10-09

This product works great for my bike and I also bought one for the bike trailer. I found the ceiling studs to mount the device. Unfortunately, the screws that came with the kit were not long enough when I mounted it directly into the ceiling. I had to get longer screws at the hardward store. It is a good value for the inexpensive price.
Excellent value!     On: 2008-10-03

I purchased four of these hoists for a small adult road bike, a large adult mountain bike, a small adult mountain bike, and a childs bike. They easily lift and store all sizes of our bikes. Even my 10-year old can get his bike up and down using the hoist. They have a great locking mechanism so you dont have to tied the rope down to secure the bike in the up position, and you can use it to securely "hold" the bike on the way up or down if you need to. The rope seems a bit skimpy, but as other reviewers said, can be easily replaced if it starts to fray. Phenomenal value at $14.95.
This Really is RAD     On: 2008-09-22

I never have space for anything anymore, especially my bike. I know me and plenty of other people can find a place to put these things, they just take up so much space. Well now that I I got this item, my day is actually brighter. I dont know why Im so happy with this product, but it worked great for me and is lasting very well. Ive got to recommend this to all, because Im sure youll be happy with it too. It even comes with a lifetime warranty, isnt that sweet. Even the heavy bikes can by hung by this, trust me I know.
Here are some helpful suggestions as you mount this great product...     On: 2008-09-22

We researched a lot of similar products via online reviews, settling on this one as having the greatest likelihood of highest quality / best price and WE ARE VERY PLEASED :)

Here are some key things wed like you to know:

1. It takes some time to get these things mounted right, so just plan on it... you need to string the rope through the 4 pieces and pulleys just so, mount them on joists just so, and ensure the distance between the two pieces is just right for your bike. We recommend at least two people, chips and salsa, and perhaps a coors light.

2. You can mount several bikes fairly close together if you offset the handlebars a bit forward and back among the mounts so that the handlebars never "share the same space." Our mounts run parallel to the joists spaced at 24" and we mounted 5 bikes, one on each joist side-by-side. Darling husband used long screws from the hardware store rather than the hardware included in the package.

3. It is important that the BACK tire go against the wall where the rope coming out of the brake will be cleated. The whole rope and braking mechanism works so well this way ... if you put the handlebars on the wall side like the picture for this product, then the handlebars block you moving the rope to operate the brake (trust, trust, trust me on this). If you put the back tire to the wall, the rope moves freely :)

4. The distance between the ceiling and the bike will not be related to how far up the handlebars or the seat stick up ... it will be the length of the hardware above where it hooks on -- this may be important to you if you are mounting above a car and top-to-bottom distance matters. We mounted three of our bikes above a mini-van roof (the other two in front) and it was important to choose the lower profile bikes as not all of the bikes would have fit directly above the van.

5. On arrival, the instructions said the mounts would hold 100 pounds (which is more than we had read here online). Our tandem bike fully equipped is just under 50 pounds and seems very secure and happy.

6. These are designed for the top rounded section of the lower hook assembly to fit into the rounded-out section of the ceiling mounted pulleys. The hook assembly will only fit into the ceiling assembly if the two pieces mounted on the ceiling are spaced EXACTLY to fit the specific bike where the hooks will grab the seat and handlebars. Youll be much more pleased if you take the time to get this spacing right (you can tell by letting the hooks hang down while you are choosing the mounting position ~ gravity will allow the ropes to work as a plumb line :)

7. If you are going to cut the rope shorter, only do so when the bike is in the down position ... once the bike is lowered, this cool contraption uses a lot of the rope!

8. Everyone in the family can operate these hoists easily -- they are so much safer and usable than the stationary hooks we used to have that involved lifting bikes onto and off of. Also, if you put the kickstand down as you lower the bike on the pulley, it even lands ready to go :)

Bon Appetit!

Bike Hoist     On: 2008-09-18

Excellent product and well worth the money. Virtually identical to a more expensive model offered by another manufacturer. Fairly easy to install once you find the ceiling joists. Recommend NOT cutting the extra rope until you lower it to the ground the first time. It makes putting the bike back up a little challenging if the rope is too short! If you need extra room in your garage this product is a must have!
Good product     On: 2008-09-16

I had researched other products for much more $$$. I found that this product is quite good for what is was designed for. If you are half way mechanically inclined, you should have no trouble at all. The instructions are easily understood and written for the backyard mechanic.
Great product     On: 2008-08-29

Easy to setup (as long as you have a ladder). It effectively clears the floor of my garage so that I can still park my cars and move around in the garage.

I plan on using more when I get more bikes that need to be put in a secure place.
Great inexpensive Bike Storage Mount     On: 2008-08-24

Great price, fast delivery, easy to install. I order 3 of these and mounted all 3 bike right next to each other. But, I did take the advice of several previous purchasers reviews and replace the cord on all 3 right away. Paid $8 for 100 cord at Lowes. Looks like rock climbers cord. Used it all since we have 11 ceilings in our garage.
Great and the price is right.     On: 2008-06-22

1/2 the cost of another model - but totally functional.
I do wish the two flat "hooks" on each side looked like this "L". Instead they are more like an Arial "L"s (without the hook). That means you need to get them mounted directly above where they hook and be more careful about moving the bike as you hoist it. The anti-drop rope stops work well enough to be the sole clamp when hoisted. I tie off the rope to the provided cleats but without tension. I have a wheelbarrow hanging from one of them.
good value     On: 2008-06-11

this bicycle hoist works well.
I used the center holes for the screw to
screw to the joist. Though I dont think
those holes were intended for the screw.
I dont think screwing into the sheetrock
is adequate
Great storage solution     On: 2008-05-31

I have three of these in the garage and they are an excellent storage solution. It can be a hassle to move the car in order to get the bike down but its a small price to pay for the floor space that is freed up. I use the hoist for our bikes as well as the child trailer, it works great.
very good!!     On: 2008-05-09

Im very happy with my purchase, and for sure would continue to shop here thanks amazon.
Perfect for high ceilings, love them     On: 2008-03-20

We bought 2 of these, now I wish I had gotten more. We have high ceilings in the garage, so I can see how if your ceiling is low, they may not work for you.

However, once up, which was easy to do, they free up SO much floor space in our crowded garage. With 2 cars, 3 kids bikes and ours off the floor now, it has made the space easier to use.
Very well made and works as expected     On: 2007-12-29

I bought three of these units to help eliminate the clutter in the garage. I have them installed and they all work very well. I looked at more expensive units from other companies but these units are just as good and much cheaper. They do take some time to install but there they are worth it because they really do free up space in the garage. You will not be disappointed with these units and I highly recommend them.

Excellent bike hoist     On: 2007-12-29

Im really into efficiency, and this definitely is a good way to take advantage of vertical empty space. I live in an apartment and its a nice way to get the bike out of the way.
Bike Mounts     On: 2007-09-21

They work very well, just takes a bit longer to install than most wall mounts. Also have to have the anchor rope tie to a wall which means you need to be near a wall, not in the middle of the garage.
Bike Hoist     On: 2007-08-31

Delta El Greco Ceiling Hoist The hoist included all the necessary parts for installation. The product functioned as advertised. I would recommend this product.
Excellent product     On: 2007-08-29

I made my own version of this, and it cost me more than this did. I think this is absolutely worth the money. If it were the $50 version, I might have reservations, but for this price - no doubt. It works well. Recommended.
wasted space     On: 2007-07-24

My husband and I got these thinking that they would open up floor space in our garage. Well, it did open up space, and they are easy to get up and down (we use them for our moutain bikes)...however, the space left under them is wasted. You cannot store under them because 1) you need to be able to lower them to the ground and 2) the bikes still hang pretty low so you cannot walk or store anything of height under them. Personally, I think a verticle double stack wall mechanism would be a better space saver.
Works great, almost identical to the more expensive version!     On: 2007-05-08

This bike lift is almost identical to the more expensive Racor list. We purchased a Racor first, then three of these. The only difference is slightly cheaper rope, and different pulleys. For the price, Im happy that I went with this one.

Review from my Racor purchase (applies to all of them):
We purchased four lifts (three of this brand, one Racor) for our garage and are happy with them. We were able to position each bike about 16" apart and have no trouble getting any bike up or down.

I have several hints from our installation, and two complaints, but on the whole am very satisfied:

Positive:
* Works smoothly
* Clever, simple system
* Locking mechanism for rope is nice
* Installation is straightforward

Negative:
* Supplied screws are too thick, very difficult to screw into studs
* Hooks need a safety strap, depending on where you attach them

Hints:
* I used 2" drywall screws -- two per mount, as my studs ran crosswise. The mounts are very solid and the drywall screws went in much easier than the (impossibly) thick screws supplied.
* I attached the hooks to a lower location on each bike to have the bike lifted all the way to the ceiling. This gives me enough room to stand beneath the bikes without bending my head.
* I used some of the extra rope, after cutting to an appropriate length, for safety straps for the hooks. Depending on where the hooks attach, they may not have enough bite to fully trust -- easy way to prevent potential injury (see an earlier post on earthquakes!!)
* I dont recommend using the supplied bracket for excess rope. I just coiled the rope and hung it from one of the quick-release levers on the bike. Works great, and keeps the ropes from getting tangled.

On the whole, Im very happy with our purchase. Almost identical to the Racor lift here, and worth the savings: Racor Ceiling Mounted Bike Lift #PBH-1R (in my opinion, anyway... especially if youre buying several)
Great Product at an Even Better Price!     On: 2007-04-14

I have been looking at these for a while and was surprised to find these at such a bargain price. They are perfect for keeping the bikes out of the way and my kids really enjoy "hoisting" their bikes up and down. The space that you save is huge. . .we can now park both cars in the garage. I highly recommend these.
