Flexy for GPS     On: 2008-04-25

Its design is its weakness.

To accomodate fitting the oversize bars, the arm is split (unlike the oversize mount for a Shimano Flight Deck) from the clamp to the part where the carbon fiber mount attaches. Two allen screws hold the Control Center securely to the bar. But placing a Garmin eTrex Legend GPS on the Control Center results in a lot of up and down flexing.

Lift the front of the bike three inches off the ground, drop it and watch the Control Center move! No motion, however, from the Flight Deck mount right next to it. Its going to make the map hard to read.

Wrapping the arm tightly with electricians tape helped a little. Placing the GPS as close as possible to the where the mount bolts to the arm made a bit of difference.

Maybe a small cyclometer will do better. But, IMHO, a solid arm on the Control Center is the way to go.

UPDATE
After a 101 mile bike ride (MN IronMan 4.27.2008), I have one recommendation: put some thread locker (i.e. blue Loctite) on the bolt that holds the carbon fiber piece to the handlebar mount to prevent it from loosening.
