Cool bag, typical attachment to rack, decent capacity     On: 2007-11-09

Fold out panniers from a rack top bag is a cool idea (though not unique in the market), but I didnt keep this product. This bag will probably fit many peoples needs, but I was looking for a quicker on/off rack attachment mechanism for commuting and more capacity in the main (top) compartment.

The description contains the line: "It also includes easy on-off Velcro attachment and snap-locks for extra security". The same words appear in the description of the similar looking Delta Quick Bag product, but rack attachment is entirely different. Whereas the Quick Bag comes with plastic belt-buckle-like straps that mount to the rack permanently and you snap the bag on /off them (quite fast), the Rack Trunk w/ Pannier uses 6 Velcro straps sewed to the bottom of the bag that you loop around your rack tubes (relatively slow). The Rack Trunk seems to have the same belt-buckles as the Quick Bag for attaching its shoulder strap so if you had the Quick Bags mounting pieces I think it would work. You could possibly wrap the shoulder strap under your rack lengthwise and attach that way, but I dont know how secure it would be.

The top compartment snuggly fit a half gallon milk jug and you could squeeze a few small items along side and on top. Then you have the panniers.

A zig-zag bungee cord along the lid would have been nice (I see that feature on many other bags), but is absent.
