Item not as pictured, poor assembly quality     On: 2007-09-13

I ordered two bike hoists - Nashbar Bike Hoist (made in China) and the Kettler Spezi (made in Germany). I will install the Kettler this weekend but my initial impression is that its made of very high quality materials, welding and coating but does require some assembly.

The Nashbar Bike hoist, however, did not meet my expectation in 3 regards:
1) The items is not as pictured. You only receive the black metal plates screwed to the pulley system. There is no wood attached. I though this might be the case, but was not clearly indicated in the item description. I bought this one assuming that its basically the same as the other $19 hoists but saved me a step with the wood already attached.
2) Quality. The rope is not nearly as strong and of high quality as the Kettler hoist. The rope is very flimsy and I can see it not lasting that long. Also, all points of contact, pulley and rivets seems very cheap.
3) Assembly. One of the screws holding the claws together (this is what attaches to the seat) was not threaded correctly and I can not take it off to re-assemble correctly.

Overall, you get what you pay for. This being said, the Kettler is not perfect. Im missing a nut for the bolt and the directions are extremely vague at best.
