![]() RAD Cycle Products Bicycle Repair Stand / Kit By: RAD Cycle Products Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 14 More Information JUNK! JUNK! read the reviews thought it was the best for the price but it can barely hold a bike on it. it kept falling off when i wasnt looking and slamming to the ground. i dont even understand how they can call this a repair stand when it is barely a bike stand. as soon as you tug on the bike it falls off. spend a little extra and save yourself the disappointment DONT BUY THIS bicycle stand good quality I received my stand today. The directions for assembly were not very good at all to be honest. I simply looked at the photos here on amazon and that was enough to assemble the stand. I have my 19 lb carbon fiber framed bike on the stand now and it is seems plenty solid. My front 700c rim/tire just fit. The stand is made of good solid steel and the hardware is of reasonable quality with aircraft type lock nuts. Included are the allen wrenchs needed and you will need a adjustable wrench as well. The mounts where the bike frame rests has plenty of clearance for the cable runs on the down tube. I guess I dont know what the issue from some of the earlier ratings. It fit my road bike fine (2.5" down tube) and is very stable. Anything larger than a 3" downtube might be stretching it. Just to be sure I gave the pedals a good spin while shifting and no issue. The tool tray is in a nice location and seems solid. NOTE I made one change. On the "J" hook that secures the bike down tube in the 2 mounts I removed the spring leaving only the J hook and the wing nut. This secures the bike much better. The ultimate test- I put my 56 vintage bike weighing in at 60lbs on the stand and it held up to that as well. So I rate this product 4 stars only because the directions are poorly executed. The manufacturer would be better off showing 4 or 5 steps with zoomed in pictures. My goal was to use the stand for adjusting and cleaning and it meets that goal nicely. I would buy this item again. My price was $35 shipped (ebay make an offer)and bottom line I am very happy with this purchase. Repair Stand Not bad for the money-BUT the instruction sheet leaves a lot to be desired. All in all, I would buy one again RAD Cycle Stand... No Buy. If you are seriously considering to purchase a bike stand to actually work on your bicycle, this one is not worth it. Not even the cost savings. Rad Cycle Products bicycle stand has horrible assymbled instructions and once the stand is up good luck keeping the bike on there while you are working. Im definately going to have to purchase a new stand. Not worth it when the bike youre working on may be worth more than your car and youre worried the bike may fall off, due to cheap mounting parts. Terrible, but a cheap mistake I picked this guy up for around $30 on ebay. At least I only lost $30. The clamp is very weak because the spring is not strong enough. The instructions are almost non-existent, although the item itself isnt complicated. Considering that like the Park Tool stand costs close to a hundred, I figured this was okay. The problem came when the stand fell apart the first time I was using it, dropping my bike about the 4 feet it was up. The thin plastic sidewall broke off where it was holding my bike by the bottom bracket. My bikes a tough little guy so it was fine, but from then on, I used the stand by holding the bike by the seat. Waste of money, do not buy. B+ for design, F- for instructions Okay, Ill admit Im not the most crafty person in the world but the really vague and poorly written instructions included with this stand is just plain lazy. I eventually tore up the one-page instructions and figured it out on my own based on the picture on the box and Internet. Im still not 100% sure I got it right but Im pretty sure I did. Ive used it for a few minor tuneups/cleanings for my mountain bike and it is adequate though not as sturdy as advertised. You will probably have to stabalize the bike a bit with your hand while working on it (as others have said). I just dont feel completely confident that it wont tip over without my help. Again, for the price this is probably the portable best bike stand you can get and does the job for the most part. Excellent for the Casual/Home biker I certainly didnt want to spend $100+ for a work stand! After a little searching, found this model and paid $32.26 w/shipping included. Easy to assemble but the first time I used it, kinda skeptical about the stability. On the upper cup fitting, the "tooth opening" would not allow base of bike to be seated all the way down. However, using a Dremel tool and filing them back some, after making sure this small modification wouldnt void the warranty from the vendor, got an excellent fit and noticeable IMPROVED stability. Only will use this for minor maintenance, chain cleaning, bike cleaning, etc., and for the price paid, certainly a satisfied customer! Good product for the price This product is good quality for the price. If you need a better repair stand be willing to pay $100+. The stand was able to hold all my bikes (1 hardtail, 2 full suspension, and 1 road bike) with no problems at all and does its job well and stores easy. I would recommend this to someone looking for a good mobile repair stand. Nice idea I have a 56cm road bike with standard tires and when I try to use this rack to work on or clean my road bike it does not fit. When I place the bike in the recommended position (with the bottom of the frame resting in the plastic receptacle) it holds the bike upright but I am unable to swing the tire all the way forward to use the front wheel stays to balance the bike. I must admit it works perfect for my mountain bike. Works Well for The Price This product is on the very low end of cycle repair stands as far as price goes. I spent somewhere around $40 total (including S&H) to get it to my door. As far as function goes I would say that it performs very well for a low cost stand. I just finished a major overhaul on my Mountain Bike using this stand. I have an older full sized bike that weighs in pretty high (~ 26 lbs). The stand was able to support the bike adequately. The only thing I didnt work on was the bottom bracket. The stand held the bike up and allowed full access to all parts. I was able to pedal the bike on the stand and work on the derailleurs and brakes all while on the stand. To do this I had to hold the bike steady so it would not tilt to the side, but it did work. I liked the front wheel stabilizers and the small compact size. Bottom line is that this is a fully functional stand and if you only have $40 to put into one you probably cant do much better. It is not the most stable stand with a heavy bike on it, but it will hold it. If you have the funds for a $300 - $ 500 stand then you can certainly get more stability. Good thing its inexpensive I cant beleive that they would originally charge $150.00 for this product. Set up was easy, was missing one screw for the legs. Can accomodate a XL montain bike no problem. Overall construction is so so, a bit on the flimsy side, but does get the job done. Was able to get into the middle holder no problem without pinching any of the brake or shifting cables. Shipping and handling is $16.00 so you are looking at overall cost of $40-45.00. Ask yourself, is it better to pay this amount, or pay the extra $50.00 and get a Park stand that you know is the best??? Bike Stand a great value and easy to use This product is quick and easy to use. The bike is at working height, protects finish and is so simple to use. The stand is slightly better on mountain bikes as compared to a road bike but works well for both. The tool stand is a real plus, there is enough room to keep your favorite tool and lube close by. I strongly recommend this as a best buy. Repair Stand I just received my stand today. Set up was simple and it folds compactly when not needed. It seems to be a relatively sturdy stand and will come in handy for adjustments to the derailleurs and also cleaning the chain. I think Ill also be using it to clean and inspect the bike periodically. For the price I cant see how you could go wrong with this. Doesn't support oversized tubes. This bike stand will not support either my road bike or my mountain bike. This is designed to support a conventional "10-speed" type bike with steel tubes. If you have an aero carbon frame, or an oversized aluminum frame, you may have trouble with this stand. It's a glorified keyboard stand -- but better than nothing The stand can support the weight of a moutain bike without tipping over... but barely. The list price of $150 is a joke but for $25+shipping its better than nothing. |
