I bought this kit for multiple reasons:
1) Bike-specific tools like the chain whip and bottom bracket removers
2) Metric! Most of my misc tools around the house are not. Silly USA.
3) One-stop shop. Rather than loosing bike tools in the mess of misc home improvement tools this is the box that I take out when working on the bike.
That said, Ive only augmented the set with a few things that can be found at any hardware store: vice grip, socket wrench, mallet and a 12" adjustable wrench. Ive done the cheap screwdriver trick for removing crown races and have access to a headset press so I think thats really about all you could need to do almost everything at home.
I did break the tip off of the small flat head screwdriver when using it (ahem, inappropriately) as a lever. So watch the quality of the standard tools, they seem a bit soft. Whacking the pedal wrench for stuck pedals and lots of torque on the BB tools has been fine so far.
Worth 200 bones? Im not sure yet but I hope itll pay off before I break more tools in the kit.

I started getting into bicycling very serious last couple years. I ride over 600+ miles a month in average and later realized that I need a tool set to maintenace my bikes. I just do not like the idea leaving my bike at the LBS for couple days for maintenance because I am riding my bikes almost every other day so the timing is very important for me.
I finally drop the money to buy the set and am glad that I did because I do not need to drop my bikes off at the LBS to have the bikes tune up. There were times that I need to change the cassett and I can do that myself instead of paying $30 for the shop to do it. The regular tune up can cost around $40 a visit so overtime this tool set is paying for itself.
I commute to work about 40+ miles a day, three times a week with 60-100 miles over the weekend. Next thing you know the bikes will need to clean and tune. -- It doesnt take long for this tool to pay for itself.
I would recommand to buy "Pro Elite Bike Repair Stand" from REI if you are going to be your own merchanic. My son always like to sit next to me when I am tunning my bikes and this tool set is going to pass down to him eventually.(Think about that is a long term investment. Ha ha!)
The set has about 90% of the tool you will ever need for regular maintenance. You can buy the special tools seperate if you ever needed.
I had couple roadies friends come by occationally to use the tool for their bike maintenance or swap out their racing wheels with the cassette. You owe that to youself a good set of tool if you enjoy riding bikes as much as I do. On: 2009-11-07
I can do about anything I need to do with this tool set. I recomend it. On: 2009-08-27
Sick of dragging your bike to the shop for simple repairs? Slap down the cash for this baby. It IS a little pricey, but it has the tools to completely rip down a bike to the frame. Do-it-yourself oriented people will really like this tool set. Quality is top notch. On: 2009-08-06
Dont look any further if you are starting to build a home workshop and dont already have many specialty bike tools. This will give you almost everything you need to do most maintenance tasks, from emergency trail repairs to drivetrain overhauls, and Park tools are the highest in quality. If you have "Zinn and the Art of Mountain (or Road) Bike Maintenance" (highly recommended for your first repair book), this set covers all of the level 1 & 2 tool sets and even a few of the advanced level 3. There are a few that overlap what you probably already have, like screwdrivers and hex wrenches, but they are quality items and its always handy to have extra of these.
You may need to supplement this set with some addl tools for some tasks, such as replacing a headset, but most of those are more pricey and best bought (or substituted) as needed. The toolbox is nothing special, but it is handy and sturdy enough, and matches the tools to boot.
Pair this with the Park PCS-10 repair stand to make your own "professional" workshop at home!
I prefer to buy at least some of my bike parts and gear at local shops to support them, but Amazons price on this set was too good to pass up. Even the other online discounters are $80-100 more.

I like to keep my bicycle working in tip-top condition. However, when doing routine maintenance you find that there is a problem doing your own work. There are several components on a bicycle that require specialized tools. The tools contained in this Park Tools tool set are made specifically to work on bicycles. Most of the tools that are needed to perform routine maintenance on your bicycle are in this toolbox. The toolbox provides a convenient way to keep these specialty tools together and ready-to-go when its time to work on the bicycle. Park Tools also has a website that has videos that show you how to use these tools when performing routine tasks. On: 2009-07-05
This tool kit is a great way to start fixing biking. I realized that my chain needs replacement badly. Being a beginner, it is a great way to start. The set of tools are just right.
I am not sure whether I am going to use the trueing tools. I bought Park Blue Book II also, which makes the reference to the tools in this kit. On: 2009-05-21
These are great quality tools. Pricey but given an average cost of $40 per service visit at your local bike shop, they soon pay for themselves.
The tools included seem to cover most of a home bike mechanics needs, though Im sure there are some real specialised tasks that might need more.
