This is the one to buy     On: 2009-08-21

Insanely light weight, really useful, well built, and mine looks good 20 years after I bought it, so when I bought a second bike, I bought a second rack without any hesitation. Other racks just seem to look bad or fall apart after a few years, but this one lasts and lasts.

The only downside that applies to nearly all racks is that it doesnt serve the purpose of a fender - its about 4 inches too short. The water on your tire still flies up and hits you in the back. Not as bad as if you had nothing, but it doesnt protect you fully.
Well built, poor hardware     On: 2009-05-23

Seems well built, solid and sturdy unlike cheaper racks I looked at first. My only complaints have to do with the included hardware. Upon bending the extenders to connect to the braze-ons, the nuts holding the screws in place would slip out of the extenders slots. I installed some small washers, reinstalled, and that did the trick. 2 other minor annoyances are the rattling of the rear reflector and what must have been a weak screw that busted upon tightening. Ill need to run to the hardware store to pick up another as they dont provide extras.
Good but needs better hardware     On: 2009-05-23

Ive had this rack since late May and it does the trick on my mountain bike. It held up well on an 80+ mile bicycling trip hauling perhaps too much gear. This rear rack is well built and seems much more sturdy compared to some less expensive bike racks.

My only complaints would be about the included hardware. After bending and attaching the racks connectors to the frame, the nuts holding the screws in place wanted to slip out of the connectors slots. I had to find and use some washers to remedy this problem. Works perfectly now. I also wish they would have included a couple extra pieces. I tightened 1 of the 2 hex screws too much and it broke. I had to use of the leftover buttonhead screw instead. Its the same size and is holding up well thus far.

All in all, I would highly recommend this economical rear bicycle rack.

Mountain Bike Turned Work Bike     On: 2009-01-31

Im getting to the point I install a rear rack on every bike I touch - whether I own it, or refurbishing an old one for re-sale. You can do so much more with a QUALITY rear rack on your bike. Stay away from Bell Ride N Haul Rear Bike Rack. It only clamps onto the seatpost. It tends to move around & you can not add panniers. This Blackburn MTN Bike Rack is a breeze to install IF your bike has braze-on eyelets. If not, you will need frame clamps for under the saddle (seat). Most rear racks come with little or no instructions. Know what youre doing ahead of time, or consult with a bike shop first. Blackburn makes some of the best racks on the market. They usually cost a bit more because theyre worth it. Feel safe carrying up to 40 lbs. with this rack properly installed on your bike.

Holds Your Junk and Keeps Your Back Dry     On: 2008-12-12

I bought this product firstly to battle having a wet butt on my way to work on wet days. It does a pretty fair job of this. Fenders still work better for the task of keeping you dry, but this better fit my needs. The MTN-1 feels very stable thus far. I havent used it to carry too many things yet, but it handles a milk crate full of heavy groceries with easy.

Mounting the product to my bike was fairly easy. My bicycle was made from the factory with attachment points that all lined up well.

The only thing I wish was different about it is that it would look better if it sat an inch or two higher on my bike frame. I ride an Alpha- Campus with 26 x 2 tires and a 20" frame. It seems that if I wanted to install a rear fender, the fit would be a bit tight.

Overall, a great product!
Bad pakaging     On: 2008-08-21

I agree this seems to be a good and sturdy piece of equipment. But, it arrrived and I found that its only defect was a pet peeve of mine....not having all the pieces required for assembly. In this instance it was not having all the nuts for each of the screws required for installation. Luckily, I have a big collection of various sized nuts and bolts and I was able to find two nuts to replace those that Blackburn did not include in their parts bag. For those who do not have a collection of nut and bolts in their basement workroom, it would mean a trip to their local hardware store to buy those they needed. I always admire the maufacturers who include a few more of the nuts, bolts, washers, etc needed for assembly. I guess some feel my complaint is picayunish, but to me it really ticks me off to find that the quality control is so poor as not to be sure to include the right number on nuts in the first place.
Nice Product     On: 2007-10-15

Installed on the bike without problem and looks nice too. It seems to be well built and its very light weight.
Still the standard by which others are judged     On: 2006-08-11

Blackburn racks are getting harder to find, but they are still at the top of the pile in terms of build quality and strength / weight. I have had Blackburn racks on a couple bikes over the years and never had a complaint. One is still going strong after 20 years. Highly recommended.
Easy to install, light weight, decent construction, & good lookin'...     On: 2006-07-20

This is a very nice black all-aluminum welded rear rack for mountain bikes. Came with everything I needed to fit onto my 21" frame (w/26" tires) Giant Rincon. It is pannier/basket-ready and some nice features include a built-in plate that acts as a splash-guard and an included bracket for mounting a rear light. This thing is nice n light at less than 1.5 lbs is load-rated at around 30 lbs. It carries a life-time warranty.
