Cervelo

Cervélo was formed in 1994 when 2 engineers, Phil White and Gérard Vroomen, decided to take the work they had been doing on developing faster Time Trial bikes to market. Today they have a line of 3 road bikes, 3 Time Trial and Triathalon bikes, and 1 track bike.

The Soloist is has a compact geometry for easier positioning for the different styles of events. It has smooth welds for a stronger frame. The internal cables are used for optimal aerodynamics. The Aero seatpost has an adjustable adjustable head. Cervélo has put the technology and aerodynamic expertise learned with their TT bikes into the Soloist. With Dura-Ace you can purchase the bike for $2699.

Four years ago, in the lead up to the Atlanta Olympics, the US Project 96 and the Cervélo P2 bikes redefined what has become the standard in aero bike design. Since then, Cervélo has continued research in order to take bike performance to the next level. That next level is called P3.

All dual aero bikes with a cutout for the rear wheel have the same problem; the middle of the cutout is too wide, and at the top and bottom it is too narrow to cover the whole tire. The P3 eliminates this problem with its patented curved rearwheel cutout. This cutout covers the rearwheel over a greater height, and the width of the cutout matches the width of the rear tire perfectly along this height. As a result the P3 offers almost double the aerodynamic coverage for the rearwheel in comparison to the next best available frame and hence more speed.

The P3 design also eliminates the aerodynamically messy area around the seatstay-seat tube joint and covers the upper part of the tire where the cutout has the greatest benefit. Furthermore, the seattube and the seatpost are 25% narrower to minimize the frontal area and aerodynamic drag.

At the same time, the design is two thirds of a pound lighter than the original P2, bottom bracket stiffness is up, and comfort is much improved due to the curved seat tube. Retail price with Dura-Ace is $3199.
