For 2002 Night Sun has introduced the Special Arc or SpARC lamps that use an electrical arc, instead of heated filament to convert electrical energy into light. The 6000 K color temperature light produced is a distinctive blueish white. ARC lamps can be up to 3 times more efficient then even the best available halogen incandescent lamps. The H.I.D. lamp used in Nightsun SpARC dual beam lamps consume about 12 watts of power, but produce the equivalent light output of a 30 watt halogen lamp.

H.I.D. lamps are not instant on, they require some time to warm up, typically reaching full power in less then one minute. It is recommended that these lights be turned on once and left on for the entire ride. Frequent On/Off/On cycles will degrade the lamp.
