For the year 2000 Campagnolo has come up with a 10-speed drive train for the Chorus and Record groups. If you just upgraded to 9-speed this year you are already dated. The release will give Campagnolo a boost it needs to take market share away from the big S.
Ten speeds allow for more possibilities in the choice of sprockets, especially with regard to the extreme positions. They will have the following gearing available: 11-21, 11-23, 12-25, 13-26 and 13-29. The additional cog does not add any weight. The sprocket is 31 grams less for the Record and 13 grams less for the Chorus.
Shifting performance has also been improved. Speed, fluidity, and shifting precision are claimed to be the best yet from Campagnolo.

Campagnolo's new 10-speed 10S rear derailleur has been completely redesigned to interface perfectly with the new transmission. All the parts of the rear derailleur have been designed to guarantee unprecedented performance and beauty.
The Record rear derailleur has the outer plate in carbon while the inner one, lightened by perforation, and the screw fittings are in titanium. The outer plate in the Chorus is in aluminum and the inner one, which is not perforated, has screw fittings in steel.

The two Record and Chorus controls remain substantially unchanged with respect to the ’99 range except for the addition in the right-hand one of mechanisms designed for the different spacing of the 10S sprockets. All the technical characteristics of the 9S stay the same.
The crankset has also been changed to adapt to the new 10S. An extra machining operation is carried out on the inside of the large chainring and on the contact surfaces between the chainring and the spider so as to ensure the right distance between the chainrings while keeping the chain line unchanged. The screws and spacers for fixing the chainrings have been changed to adapt to the new geometry.

The chain is one of the most important elements for the proper operation of the 10-Speed. It has been made slimmer so as to interface with the new sprocket cassette spacings and is now the slimmest on the market, passing from 6.8mm to 6.1mm, while maintaining the same treatments, and the same tensile strength and breaking load to ISO standards. Finally, the weight has been reduced by 20 g.
The front derailleur for the 10S transmission will be fitted with a tongued insert on the outer fork to improve shifting. All the Chorus front derailleurs in the 2000 range will have an outer Record fork to permit the application of the insert.

The new sprocket cassette has also been completely redesigned to house the tenth sprocket. The MK2 system has been maintained for the sprocket cassette, but all the dimensions have changed.
|
| The following combinations are available: 11-21, 11-23, 12-25 and 13-26. The standard Record version will combine steel and titanium sprockets with all-titanium ones (option), while the Chorus version will offer all the sprockets in steel. |

| The most evident feature of this new computer is its design: the streamlined shape and the mounting position in front of the handlebar fitting ensure that there are no negative aerodynamic effects - unlike conventional bike computers - at the same time as improving overall styling. Let's take a closer look at the performances of this jewel - the outcome of the efforts of our best technicians.
